Minister of Agriculture and Food Security James Munthali has assured all Malawians that fertiliser which is currently not available in most Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) markets will be available soon.

Responding to remarks by Traditional Authority (T/A) Chilowamatambe at the commemorations of World Aids Day at Chamwabvi Primary School grounds in Kasungu on the scarcity of fertiliser in Admarc markets despite people having coupons, James Munthali said Admarc markets will soon have fertiliser.

He said the problem was with transportation of the fertiliser to various markets.

“Let me assure you that fertiliser will be available as we have sorted out all the problems that are there in transporting fertiliser to markets,

“Those who have coupons should not despair or throw away the coupons as we have looked into the transportation problems, … markets will have fertiliser,” said Munthali.

The Minister also advised farmers to follow procedures when applying the fertiliser and that they should not mix the fertiliser with other unnecessary materials.

T/A Chilowamatambe said the people in his area have coupons that they received as part of the Farm Input Subsidy Program (Fisp) but the nearest Admarc Markets do not have fertiliser.
